Instagram paid subscriptions for creators
Instagram paid subscriptions a new monetization way to earn money monthly from your followers. US Instagram users will soon be able to subscribe to a small number of creators and influencers to access exclusive content and features.
Paying the monthly fee offers the following benefits to subscribers:
- Subscriber Lives: Creators can broadcast exclusive livestreams to subscribers only.
- Subscriber Stories: Creators can publish stories just for their subscribers.
- Subscriber Badges: When subscribers leave comments a badge will appear next to their name to let the creator, and other users, know they’re a loyal fan.
The accounts offering the feature at the moment include actor @alanchikinchow, Olympic silver medalist @jordanchiles, dancer @kelseylynncook, and gymnast @jackjerry, among others. Instagram is giving creators eight different price points, from $0.99 per month up to $99.99 per month.
There’s also no dedicated section for Subscriptions in creators’ analytics dashboards during the early tests. But creators will be able to access their total estimated earnings from subscriptions, total subscribers, new subscriptions and cancellations from their Subscriptions Settings. They aren’t able to export subscriber lists, or any sort of data, but Instagram says it hopes to build tools that would allow creators to connect with subscribers “off-platform” in the future.
For fans, signing up for a subscription to their favorite creators’ content takes place via traditional in-app purchases across iOS and Android. And for now, Instagram is not taking a cut of the creators’ revenues.
“We are the same as all of Meta — we’re not taking any rev share until at least 2023,” noted Instagram co-head of Product, Ashley Yuki. “Our main goal here is that we help creators make a living…We’re trying to think of all the ways that we can build monetization products where that’s possible.”
Subscribers can get access to three new Instagram core features. Subscriptions include access to special exclusive live broadcasts, stories that only subscribers can see, and a badge that will appear next to comments and messages indicating that you are a subscriber.
The second feature is that this subscription option allows users to have a badge or identification tag that makes it easier for creators to identify them. The badge may be embedded next to the user’s account name or in the user’s profile photo.
The third feature is subscriber lives, which allows subscribers to view exclusive live videos of their favorite creators’ content. Later, content creators will be authorized to broadcast live videos only for paid subscribers.
